Enhance your career

Be the first to read about jobs, news and articles
You'll receive the monthly membership magazine, 'The Ergonomist', as part of your subscription. You'll be the first to read about latest job vacancies, news about ergonomics and human factors, and articles on a wide variety of topics. You'll also get access to special members only pages on the IEHF website, where you'll find resources and information that will help you in your career.

Improve your opportunities for networking

Joining the Institute is an excellent opportunity to meet other professionals and make friends and business relationships. The Institute's Annual Conference provides an informal setting in which to meet new people and catch up with former colleagues. In addition, there are a number of Regional Groups operating around the country, which provide the opportunity to meet other ergonomists in your area. The Groups hold regular meetings and visits, often with guest speakers, and provide an opportunity to meet local professionals and learn something at the same time. The Groups are informal and always welcome new members.

Professional recognition
Registered Members and Fellows can use the affiliations MIEHF and FIEHF. These affiliations can be added to your business card, letterhead and CV to indicate that you are a qualified and professionally recognised ergonomist or human factors professional. Registered Consultancies may also use the IEHF Registered Consultancy logo on their promotional material.

Increase your credibility amongst other professionals, clients and employers
The IEHF is the only professional Institute in the UK dedicated solely to ergonomists and human factors specialists. Being a member of the Institute indicates to colleagues, customers and potential employers that you are a qualified and respected professional. Many employers now ask for Registered Membership of the Institute specifically.

Promote your company
Contact details from the Institute's Consultancy Register are promoted on this web site and regularly passed to enquirers, many of whom are seeking professional ergonomics assistance.

Gain recognition for your achievements
Your work and achievements can be promoted through journal publications, presentations, workshops, regional groups and annual awards for excellence.

European recognition
Qualify for recognition as an ergonomist throughout Europe through CREE.

Save money

Attend Institute conferences at discounted rates
Typically savings are over £100 on the all-inclusive fee - a discount of 15%. Student and Retired Members get even better reductions. If you are a Student Member, you will benefit from our annual Student Conference, which is very cheap to attend. These events provide an opportunity to widen your knowledge and meet potential employers.

Get discounts on journals
We have a growing list of titles to choose from, including 'Ergonomics', 'Behaviour and Information Technology' and 'Applied Ergonomics'. You are not restricted to taking a single journal - you can choose more than one and receive these savings on them all. You can also get a 15% discount on 'Human Factors', the journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society.

Get discounts on books
All members receive a 15% discount on books purchased from Taylor & Francis, who publish a large number of popular and specialist ergonomics titles, many of which are the 'standard texts' in their field.

Members get a 20% discount on any books from Ashgate.

Members also get a 20% discount on books from Blackwell. The discount applies only to books published in the area of 'Organization & Management' which are published and sold directly by Blackwell Publishers, using a special order form. This offer does not apply to any books sold in Blackwell shops.

Get a good deal on professional liability insurance
Members can get preferential rates from Towergate Professional Risks.

Shape the future of ergonomics

Be consulted
The IEHF often considers topics which are strategically related to the future of ergonomics. As part of the Institute, you can suggest issues to consider, comment on those currently under discussion, and lobby your representative on Council. You could join one of our Special Interest Groups, who are often invited to comment for articles in magazines or to provide comment on Government consultations.

Promote ergonomics
The Institute actively promotes ergonomics wherever it can - we have an active PR & Communications Committee, with a dedicated member of staff, and are also represented on a number of Government groups, standards committees, and other national and international bodies. As part of the Institute, you benefit from this activity as ergonomics becomes more widely understood and accepted.

Influence
Depending on your preferred level of involvement, you can also become more active in the running of the Institute - by joining Council, one of the committees, or helping with a Regional Group.
