Serco Human Factors team is an established user-focused team providing consultancy advice on safety, productivity, usability and performance issues within a wide range of industry sectors and countries.

Our team consists of qualified ergonomists, psychologists, designers, physiologists and safety specialists who seamlessly work together to provide an integrated, multidisciplinery solution to issues surrounding design and reliability of systems, procedures, equipment, workplaces and organisations to promote optimal human performance.

Established in 1989, we have now been offering practical, bespoke advice on human factors-related issues within the following industries:

  • nuclear (civil and defence)
  • aviation
  • military
  • transport (road and rail)
  • oil and gas
  • manufacturing companies
  • health sector

Serco Human Factors team members work both as independent consultants and as part of integrated multi-disciplinary project teams.

 

Some of our more recent work includes:

  • Human error identification and reduction, including using techniques such as Hazard and Operability Studies (HAZOPs), Systematic What-if Technique (SWIFT), Systematic Human Error Reduction and Prediction Approach (SHERPA), Tabular Task Analysis (TTA), design reviews and optioneering studies.
  • Human Reliability Assessment (HRA), using a number of different techniques and tools. Serco Human Factors team have also developed bespoke HRA training courses and deliver them at both introductory and advanced level.
  • Control room design in a range of industries including nuclear, rail and emergency response centres, including workplace layout, procedure design and evaluation and human machine/computer interface design.
  • Training needs analysis, design and evaluation, including gap analyses to evaluate existing competences, job design and workload concerns.
  • Human factors integration, setting standards for inclusion of human factors issues with large and small projects, implementing these standards to meet good practice and the requirements of the regulators.
  • Working alongside industry regulators to provide support in terms of peer review and development of guidance documents.
